A few days before the Chinese New Year – to be celebrated on February 1st – and the 2022 Beijing Olympics, the Politecnico launches its official profile of WeChat, the well-known Chinese platform that combines the usual messaging tools with additional social media functions and numerous other services.
Launched in 2011, WeChat nowadays gathers more than 1.2 billion of users, covering over 30% of the total internet traffic in China. Landing on WeChat means, for PoliTO, opening a privileged communication channel with the Chinese public and beyond.
More in detail, WeChat will be a promotion tool for Politecnico’s activities in China: PhD courses – the CSC program in particular –, events, partnerships, student services and other relevant activities for companies and institutions. It will also be a showcase for all initiatives organized in China in accordance with PoliTO’s interests.
A further goal is to enlarge and foster Politecnico’s contact network thanks to the PoliTO China Alumni Association. Moreover, WeChat will help to meet the incoming students’ needs, thanks to its chat service that will be supported also by the already enrolled Chinese students.
The Politecnico’s WeChat profile is online and will soon be rich of contents for a vast public: form prospective students to the academic community involved in Chinese projects, to institutions and companies.
“Over the last two years, the impossibility to be present in China has encouraged a strategy for a proper interaction with our solid network of alumni, colleagues and companies. Due to the ineffectiveness of usual western tools and apps, WeChat will be a powerful tool for communication, content creation and dialogue”, comments Prof. Michele Bonino, Rector’s Delegate for International Relations with China and Asian Countries, together with Carla Chiasserini, the Rector’s Delegate for Alumni and Career Services, who promoted the initiative with a strong interest and collaboration of the entire University.
