25 May 2018

A team of PhD students in Metrology at the Politecnico di Torino won the second prize for the best application "Sensors and measurement systems" in the IEEE Sensors and Measurement Student Contest.

Alessio Gullino of the XXXIII cycle, Leonardo Iannucci and Luca Lombardo of the XXXII cycle, with their tutors Sabrina Grassini of the Department of Applied Science and Technology and Marco Parvis of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, participated in the international competition promoted by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society and by the IEEE Sensors Council, which was held in Houston from May 14-17, 2018 during the International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference - I2MTC2018.

GOOFY - Golf Overall Feedback for You, the measurement system developed by the Politecnico team, is a very light and intelligent device able to measure the swing movement in the game of golf and transfer the measured data in real time to the athlete.

The development of sensors and measurement systems is an integral part of the research work that Alessio, Leonardo and Luca carry out within their doctoral path. To complete the great success of the team the two students of the XXXII cycle, Leonardo Iannucci and Luca Lombardo also won the Student Travel Grant award.

Motivated by the experience, they are ready for next year's competition.
