GreenMetric World Universities Ranking: the Politecnico is increasingly sustainable

11 January 2017

International rankings also certify that the Politecnico is increasingly sustainable. The University has in fact gained as many as 191 positions this year in the GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities, the international ranking of sustainable universities drawn up on the basis of a questionnaire that evaluates: teaching sustainability, energy efficiency, structures, mobility, water consumption and waste disposal. It is a “contest ranking”, since it is the universities themselves which send their adhesion to compare their efforts in the direction of environmental sustainability in their operations.

The Politecnico, in particular, is the Italian university with the best position (36th place worldwide) for the energy efficiency and combating climate change area, and has improved its performance in all areas, demonstrating the consolidation of the sustainability process embarked on in recent years.

The coordinator of the University's Green TeamPatrizia Lombardi comments: “We are satisfied with this first year of activity and the recognition we have had at the national and international level, not only from the rankings and from GreenMetric. For example, we have been recognised by CRUI among the eleven Italian universities belonging to the Coordination Committee of the Italian Network of Universities for Sustainability (RUS). Obviously, - continues Patrizia Lombardi - all the activities promoted are the continuation of that already put in place, in a widespread and autonomous manner, by the various parties active at the university on the issue of sustainability, now under one roof, that of the Sustainable Path towards reducing CO2 emissions, managing the transition towards a community more conscious of its environmental impacts and contagious in good practices, also outside the boundaries of the Politecnico campus. Certainly, it is necessary to strengthen the lines of communication and dissemination of the activities carried out and, with a view to the coming year, consolidate a network of researchers (PoliTO and otherwise) sensitive to the issue and able to provide data and ideas for research projects, articles and essays concerning the Politecnico as a test bed on Sustainability Management practices in Universities”.
